Began my farewell tour of favorite Downtown lunch spots with DiBella’s. It’s a recent entry but quickly rose to become the best sandwich place in the Golden Triangle.
Started looking at travel arrangements for UDS. New manager said he’d put me in touch with Canonical’s travel people.
Started helping with support issues since I’m not taking on any new projects. Andy gave me a nasty support ticket about a possible memory leak in the USB gadget driver for one of our boards. I shouldn’t have said anything
Home then off to guitar lesson. Learned some interesting finger picking styles and variations on Travis picking.
After everyone had showered we all visited the zoo. It was a slightly rainy day, so happily the zoo was not crowded at all but it was still pleasant enough to walk around most of the time. Nephew was most impressed by the aquarium portion, with the colorful fish (and penguins!) though later he would claim to most vividly remember one of the elephants peeing (“Big pee!”) (he’s two).
Later we went to my grandparents’ house for an Easter party. Great food and lively discussion as always.
Finished installing new cellar floor with Father-in-law. Then built a very nice work bench with a peg board and storage for tools.
My parents joined us for Easter Dinner. Lots of Polish food, all of which was as delicious as it is hard to spell.
After dinner Emily and I opened belated birthday gifts from her family. I got a home brewing kit (with a starter set of ingredients to make a porter), a Star Wars apron and lunch box, as well as a solar-powered lantern for the back porch. Emily got a similar apron along with Star Wars cookie cutters and a solar-powered wind chime.
Up early; Final preparations for incoming in-laws.
Mother- and Father-in-Law arrived around lunch time. Father-in-law and I immediately went to work tearing out the old floor from the cellar under the porch. Many rotten and moldy boards were pulled from that room. Bleached the crap out of the dirt floor and built the frames for the new flooring.
Brother-, Sister-, and nephew-in-law arrived late in the evening. Young boy was pretty wired for that late hour but eventually he was put to bed, as was everyone else.
Delved deeper into QT mess. Downside of debugging QT build issues is that QT takes a long time to build. After playing with the build settings it seems that qmlviewer is not built by default in 4.7.1. Have to either update our supported version to 4.7.2 (which I believe does build it) or hack in some steps to build and install the tool on its own.
After work Emily and I went to D’s Six Pax & Dogz in Swissvale to watch the Pens game and discuss an upcoming beer tasting event that Emily is organizing with the previous years’ organizer.
Up and off to the bus. Barely missed it. Damn the new schedule. Hopped on a 61.
Sent what I desperately hope is a final drop of the audio driver code to the customer.
Started investigating why our cross-build of QT doesn’t include the qmlviewer tool. We are a version or two behind upstream so it may have to be built separately.
Headed to my guitar class after work. We changed things up this time by sitting in a circle and playing “City of New Orleans” without looking at the music. I mostly had the chords down but when we added Travis picking to the mix things started getting interesting. Must find more time to practice.
Audio driver work winding down. Performed some final code cleanup. Will package the driver up with a nice bow and ship it out tomorrow.
Home; Invited my parents to Easter dinner (should have done that a bit earlier perhaps, as Emily’s family was already planning on coming). Should be a fun event: we’re already washing the fancy dishes.
Watched Forgetting Sarah Marshall from Netflix. Really enjoyable in that unique Judd Apatow kind of way.
Up a bit early. Fever mostly gone. Off to church to see Emily play with the Folk Orchestra. They kicked ass, as has been their habit of late. Emily is the best one in her row.
Home. Took a brief nap to recover from church then headed to the Waterfront. Got fitted for my third wedding tux in the space of a year (only one was my wedding), then bought shower gifts and some miscellaneous household items.
Home again. Emily and I took a long nap as she put a 90 minute string of cheesy movie trailers up on Netflix streaming.
Dinner was left-over birthday cake. Exactly what my worn out body needed.
