• Up pretty close to a reasonable time. To work.
  • Not much accomplished at work today, I’m afraid. Everyone appeared to be in a drunken stupor. I blame Daylight Saving Time.
  • Home, ate some Pi Day Pie that Emily made yesterday. Scrum-diddly-umptious. Pumpkin.
  • Plumbing project to replace the trap under the bathroom sink went the way of most plumbing projects. Multiple trips to Lowe’s later and we still have to brush our teeth in the kitchen.

  • Up late. I’ll blame the clocks changing for that.
  • Great breakfast of pancakes and bacon made lovingly by my wife.
  • Played around a bit more with LMDE. I was initially disappointed with how stale some of the packages are (it’s based on Debian Testing) but once I discovered apt pinning all was well.
  • Went to a friend’s birthday party and arrived to find she’d just gotten engaged. It must be spring because romance is in the air.

  • Up late. Because it’s the weekend.
  • My parents bought us patio furniture as a joint early birthday present.
  • As thanks we took them out to dinner at Blue Dust. Dad reminisced about when that place was a “shot and a beer joint” sitting conveniently at the entrance to the Homestead Works steel mill.
  • Took Emily out to see The Adjustment Bureau. Good movie with an interesting premise, but it seemed too short to me.
  • Finally managed to get Linux Mint Debian Edition running on my laptop. The secret was apparently using the usually dormant Windows (gasp!) partition on Emily’s computer to run some SanDisk software to remove the weird read-only partition on my flash drive. LMDE definitely boots faster than the traditional Ubuntu-based versions. I’ll have to play around with it a bit more before I can say for sure which I prefer.

  • Up early, to work. Apparently the apocalyptic weather forecast was slightly exaggerated.
  • Today was my day to buy bagels for the office. I performed that sacred duty with the proper reverence and without incident.
  • Audio driver still not quite right. Sent a patch to the customer to try along with their fancy-pants logic analyzer (the board they sent doesn’t have the right signals broken out to use ours).
  • Home for our thrice-rescheduled Impromptu Zombie Party. Many zombies were killed (as were a few humans). Much beer was consumed, and I dare say a good time was had by all.

  • Up on time. Off to work.
  • Continued wrestling with GPIO problem. Got it sorted, but there still seem to be some corner cases to deal with.
  • Greg stopped by on the way back from a customer visit and he, Andy, Justin, and I had lunch at Madonna’s. Tough to find a better burrito Downtown.
  • Picked up a growler of East End Drayman’s Heather Ale and a bottle of the beer they can’t call Eye Opener Coffee Porter after work.
  • Fake meat tacos for dinner. Delicious.
  • Still wrestling with the LMDE installer. Turns out the only flash drive I have that’s big enough to hold the installer has some bizarre partitioning scheme on it that chokes unetbootin. The DVD drive in my laptop is way too flaky to install from a disc so the great struggle continues.

  • Up somewhat late, still managed to catch my bus.
  • Spent most of the day adding some fancy GPIO and muxing trickery in an attempt to solve a driver issue. Got it most of the way there but it hangs under certain conditions.
  • Hit the gym after work.
  • Attempted several times to install Linux Mint Debian Edition on my laptop, but after one false start and some trouble with the install media I had to put it off until tomorrow.

  • Up on-time. Have to remember to leave more time for shaving again.
  • Lunch at Pho Van in the Strip. The pho was tasty, the service was fast, and unlike some other pho restaurants in the Strip it hasn’t to my knowledge been shut down by the ACHD.
  • Picked up some paczki for Fat Tuesday from the Polish deli. Yum.
  • On the way to lunch a strange man who thinks comedy means speaking in a falsetto voice made fun of Justin’s Penguins hat.
  • On the way back from lunch a different strange man “accidentally” punched Justin in the gut.
  • Today was not Justin’s best day ever.
  • Guitar lesson was lots of fun. Learned some blues riffs and put them to “Steamroller Blues”.

  • Up rather early, but had to fetch the laundry I had forgotten to get from the dryer last night. Missed my usual bus.
  • Heat not working at the office. Not good when it’s 25°F outside.
  • Looking more and more like I’ll have to do some GPIO fiddling to get my driver issue settled. I was hoping to avoid it but such is life.
  • Home. Emily made a delicious meal of tilapia and snap peas for dinner. Helluva cook, she is.
  • Practiced the guitar for an hour or so. Using the steel-stringed, yet crappy guitar. Hopefully that will build up my calluses faster than the really nice nylon-stringed instrument. Still deciding if I want to continue to the next level of lessons.
  • Played some StarCraft II with Jaos and Jeremiah. I’m getting pretty rusty at that game, but I suppose if I’m out of practice at something I’m OK with that thing being a video game.

  • Up relatively early, to church. Music (and most of the sermony stuff) today was provided by Jim Scott, a prominent Unitarian singer/songwriter, as part of a promotion for the Unitarian musical he’s written (not making this up).
  • Home to change into dingier clothes then off to Wings, Suds & Spuds with Emily, Greg, and Jaos. Much was discussed and many wings were eaten.
  • Visited my parents. Performed requisite tech support (brought their computer up to Ubuntu 10.04 and fixed their printer) while watching most of the Indiana Jones movies on USA.
  • Remembered that one of the few things I miss about cable is turning the TV on to find a random awesome movie marathon. Also this is one of the reasons I got rid of cable. I get so much more done nowadays.
  • Returned home and putzed around on the computer. But at least the TV was off.
